Inspiration from the Past

All Things Fall by Mat Collishaw

I came across this interesting piece that was created from 3D printing. It is a 3D zoetrope (I had to look up what a zoetrope is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoetrope) inspired by Ruben’s painting, The Massacre of the Innocents. While the images of the piece are impressive on their own, it literally comes to life when spun like a carrousel. I think it’s pretty interesting how the artist is using cutting edge technology to make a zoetrope, something most popular in the 1800s, based on a Baroque painting inspired by a story in the Bible.
